HP Support Assistant is printing software to set up your printer, scan, order supplies, check ink levels, and more. After upgrading Windows, the printer information in HP Printer Assistant and Windows is lost. When this happens, use HP Support Assistant to connect your printer as a new printer.
Step 1: Reconnect the printer
Step 2: Click Connect a new printer.
Step 3: Select the connection type when prompted, and then follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer.
Step 4: Turn off the printer, and then restart your computer.
Step 5: Turn on the printer, and then open HP Support Assistant.
HP Support Assistant helps keep your HP computer in working order by finding updates and providing troubleshooting tools. Most HP computers come with HP Support Assistant. Click the app icon in the taskbar, or search Windows for support assistant to open the tool.
Downloading and installing HP Support Assistant
Download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant.
Go to Download HP Support Assistant to download and install the tool.
Changing update schedule and notifications settings in HP Support Assistant
Set preferences for when to check for software updates and how HP Support Assistant notifies you when updates or messages are available.
Click Settings at the top of the HP Support Assistant window.
Change the settings in each section to match your needs. Make sure to scroll down to see all the available settings.
Updating the computer using HP Support Assistant
Use HP Support Assistant to automatically install computer updates, such as updated drivers, system updates, and useful utilities.
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Perform any other update management actions as needed.
Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.
Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.
Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.

Follow these steps to fix the problem:
Turn off antivirus software and the firewall.
Go to the HP Customer Support website.
Download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant.
Restart the computer to complete the installation process.
Click the HP Support Assistant icon to open the application.
